For about five years I have been reading the daily email newsletter from Axios. Their coverage of the news is concise and accurate, fair and reasonable. I thought it was interesting that at the beginning of each report, they list a total number of words and estimated time to read it. That happened because they were looking around at other news outlets and believed that many reporters were writing articles that were unnecessarily long and complicated. They determined to keep their reports brief and to the point, which was one thing I appreciated.
With that in mind, they developed a concept they called Smart Brevity and consequently wrote a book by the same name. It explains how to use simplicity, exactness, and accuracy to express ideas clearly and directly. It offers many examples and explains why brevity is what the world wants and why it works. This is valuable, useable advice. It is smart for business, writing, or anyone with ideas to share with someone else.
